Food-related fics

In honor of U.S. Thanksgiving, I’ve put together a list of food-related Sherlock fics. To be read while travelling to or from, digesting after, avoiding social situations, hiding from unpleasant relatives, dealing with jet lag, or sharing out loud with grandma. (Who probably wrote some of these.)

A Study in Spherification by mistyzeo (58K, Johnlock, Explicit)
John Watson has been out of work for eighteen months after his last
restaurant, Fifth Northumberland, burned to the ground in a kitchen
accident. He’s more than ready for a new project, but who wants to open a
restaurant with a washed up celebrity chef who can’t even hold a knife
anymore?

An Acquired Taste by orphan_account (11K, Johnlock, Teen)
When an injury forces adventure and travel photographer John Watson to
take more sedate jobs, he worries he might be bored – until he meets
Chef Sherlock Holmes.

Appetite by lookupkate (14K, Johnlock, Explicit)
Sherlock is a renowned food critic. John has a food truck. You can see where this is going.

Cake and Other Sins by Indybaggins (100K, Johnlockcroft, Explicit)
Sherlock and John meet as competing bakers on The Great British Bake
Off. There’s intense baking, lush recipes and enticing food. Mycroft,
guilt, past sins in chocolate and gingerbread. And love. That too.

Captains of Industry by 221b_hound (115K series, Johnlock, Gen to Explicit)
Captains of Industry is the most hipster of Melbourne hipster cafes.
It’s bespoke suits, artisan shoes, sculpted facial hair and the most
exquisite food and coffee all the way. Sherlock Holmes, Digital Security
Consultant, has become a regular patron. And one day, perhaps one day
soon, he will work out how to successfully flirt with the hot barista,
John Watson.

Division by MrsNoggin (19K, Johnlock, Explicit)
John likes mysteries. And every morning he dips into the local
independent coffee bar with his newspaper and ponders another… one
Sherlock Holmes. Coffee Shop AU.

Good Bread and Fresh Butter by Calico, Habernero (25K, Johnlock, Explicit)
The AU where John is a chef and Sherlock is, well, Sherlock.

Just Like That series by cwb (196K, Johnlock, Explicit)
John and Sherlock are best friends, until John goes and changes.

Kiss the Cook by TooSelin (40K, Johnlock, Explicit)
Sherlock Holmes, 23 years old and in possession of
highly developed senses, starts working at France’s top restaurant
(rather involuntarily). John Watson, owner of the restaurant and chef de
cuisine, soon takes charge of his training. The catch is that Sherlock,
for the life of him, cannot actually cook. (Ratatouille AU)

Mise en Place by azriona (161K, Johnlock, Mature)
John Watson had no intentions of taking over the family business, but
when he returns from Afghanistan, battered and bruised, and discovers
that his sister Harry has run their restaurant into the ground, he
doesn’t have much choice. There’s only one thing that can save the
Empire from closing for good – the celebrity star of the BBC series
Restaurant Reconstructed, Chef Sherlock Holmes.

The Book of Silence/Rosa Felicia series by SilentAuror (99K, Explicit, Johnlock, Rose/OCs)
As
spring blooms in London, John and Sherlock begin to take new cases and
cautiously negotiate this new phase of life with John living at Baker
Street again. Despite how well it’s all going, John struggles to forgive
himself for the way he treated Sherlock following Mary’s death as well
as trying to figure out how to finally put his long-time feelings for
Sherlock into words.

The Way to a Man’s Heart by SwissMiss (21K, Teen, Johnlock, Mollstrade)
When
Greg asks Sherlock to be his best man, the past returns in an
unexpected way, confronting Sherlock and John with the need to define
what they are to each other. Set about a year after series 3.

The White Lotuses by SilentAuror (20K, Johnlock, Explicit)
One day John realises that he just isn’t where he belongs, which is back
at Baker Street with Sherlock. So he goes back and Sherlock, in his own
way, courts him. Romance.

Plus a few fics dealing with eating disorders:

Eating Us Alive
by solrosan (67K, Teen, can be read either as John&Sherlock or
John/Sherlock) Since the age of 14, Sherlock has struggled with an
undiagnosed (and untreated) eating disorder. He has good periods and bad
periods, but most of the time he manages. After a year of living
together, John figures out the reason behind Sherlock’s strange eating
habits and both of them struggle to understand and deal with this
complicated relationship with food when it slowly starts to spiral out
of control.

Table for One series by SilentAuror (32K, Johnlock, Explicit)
Sherlock has returned to London, only to find that the John he left
behind has changed. Why is he spending so much time alone in cafés,
hardly eating, limping again? Why has he become so beige? Sherlock slowly begins to realise that this is not going to be as easy as he had thought.

The Weight of Knowledge by Sherlocksdressinggown (10K, Teen, Johnlock)
They
say that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. When John’s
curiosity is piqued by Sherlock’s reaction to a simple offering he
decides an experiment is in order. The data he gathers leads him to the
one situation he’d never thought he’d find himself in. Or not in, as the
case may be.

Under the Coat by Loopy456 (48K, General, Gen)
John knows what eating disorders look like. The thing is, he’d
found nothing. There was nothing, nada, zero, absolutely no evidence for
any kind of eating disorder. No anorexia, no bulimia, nothing. It
lulled him into a false sense of security.

Sherlock always wears his coat, no matter what the weather or the
season. Not that there’s any particular reason for this, of course.

So many favorites on here that I haven’t read in a while! I think I know what I’ll be doing after the in-laws leave this afternoon. Thanks for sharing this, @swissmissficrecs!

I have to add one that I absolutely love:

Five Times John Cooked Something with Peas and One First Kiss by @221b-carefulwhatyouwishfor (4k, Teen, Johnlock)

After John cooks five dinners that slowly reveal their hunger for each other, Sherlock and John finally share a first kiss.

Coming home to find John busy in the kitchen, a strong wave of domesticity had washed over Sherlock, stirring up something unexpected, something he hadn’t quite known he craved until now. But it was more than companionship he was responding to, it was… what, exactly?

Intimacy. That was the word he was fumbling for. It felt intimate to walk into their home, water bubbling, spoon circling, fingers mounding, scooping, cradling food.
